What I’ve Been Doing and Where I’m Going
Things have been crazy. I’m not sure I’ve ever had a time in my life when I’ve had so many things going on in so many different directions – it’s all good, but at the same time a little overwhelming. I originally punched out this post on my iPhone while commuting on the subway because that was literally the only free time I had.
That was a month ago. Here’s what’s been up since then and where I’m going next.
1. I went on my first solo trip in NINE YEARS. (Except for Montreal, which was lovely and breezy and almost too easy to be considered a solo trip.) I spent eleven days in Saint Petersburg, Tallinn, and Oslo, living out of a huge backpack and talking with my hands. It was wonderful and challenging and rewarding and so much fun. I have so many stories and pictures I want to share with you guys (especially of Tallinn. I fell in love!), so look forward to those posts soon.
Have any questions about those destinations? Let me know and I’ll try to answer them!
2. I got on Snapchat. After years of disparaging it (maybe because I would occasionally catch students snapping in class), I finally broke down. And now I’m addicted.
Seriously, though, I love being able to follow my friends and favorite travel bloggers in real time as they explore the world or just their own city! Also, the Snapchat Live feature that showcases a different city or event every day is super cool. The day I signed up they were featuring Kuwait City – what an easy way to get a glimpse into a place that would be difficult for me to see in real life. And of course I’m getting tons of travel inspiration. Kudos to Adventurous Kate for being a Snapchat champion. You can find me there at wayfarersbook.
3. I’ve been really enjoying New York. To the serious max. This has been one of the most beautiful summers we’ve had since I moved back, and I’ve been bragging about it all over Instagram. I’ve been going on sunset walks, picnicking at outdoor movies on Governors Island, and cramming as many donuts into my face as possible. You can catch some of my shenanigans on the SuperTravelersUSA blog (did someone say New York craft brews?).
Got questions about New York City? Let me know! I’m going to share some of my favorite New York things soon.
And the reason I’ve been loving on New York so much recently is…
4. I’m moving to Singapore! Nomadic life is finally about to begin! Boyfriend got an amazing opportunity for three months of work in Singapore, so we’re jumping on that plane. I’m thrilled to be going to a completely new part of the world. We’re excited to explore all of Singapore’s parks and eat all the food, but I’m also looking forward to chilling in Bali over the weekend, hiking through the ruins of Angkor Wat, and partying for New Years on a beach in Thailand! I’ll be coming back to New York in January to see my family and head out to a new destination that’s captivated Americans’ imaginations for decades. But more on that later…
So life is about to get SUPER interesting! If you have any tips about Singapore or advice on where we can explore on the weekends, let me know. I hope you’ll be following along on the adventures!
